“I design clothing as a choreographer, costumer, curator and dancer. I enjoy bodies. I consider pattern, texture, muscle, bone, sweat and personal choice, making garments that can be worn in rehearsal, on stage, the street, and at home. Every piece is multi gendered, body friendly and dancer approved. I have been romanced by Paul Poriet, George Balanchine, Alice Coltrane, Somatics, Magic and Los Angeles circa 1974. I am humbled by the beauty of the perfect designs I see in Nature. I love simple drama.” James Kidd

About:

POPULOUS is a gathering of high-end artisans and designers based on the Eastside of Los Angeles, whose clothing and accessories are made by hand or produced locally. Our cooperative aims to foster a sense of community and culture, build a supportive network for emerging designers, and create an open market to share our goods with the public.

The event will take place on Sunday MAY 20 from 11 AM TO 5PM at PIETER; a performance art and dance space in Lincoln Height's Lacy Studios, a renovated 1930's electrical factory. Homemade refreshments will be offered from several of the designers own recipes.
